– Le fer à mailloche est tout d’abord un fer à galber le cuir. En chauffant le bord du cuir avec la palette en laiton, il vous permet de détendre le cuir et de lui faire épouser la courbure du fer. Cette opération de galbage est fréquente pour bomber le fond d’un sac.
– Le fer mailloche déplisse aussi les peaux et les aplanit en utilisant la palette en laiton comme un fer à repasser.
– Enfin, utilisé par mouvements circulaires sur le côté chair des cuirs sensibles comme les cuirs exotiques, il redonne du galbe et de la brillance aux écailles.
Le mailloche peut s’appliquer directement sur cuir et/ou à l’aide d’un papier transfert de chaleur appelé feuille de téflon.
Ces trois opérations apportent au cuir son bombé et révèlent toute sa brillance pour créer de grandes pièces de maroquinerie et bagagerie.
